BOOKING AN APPOINTMENT
You can use the online appointment scheduler to book an appointment. If none of the times available work for you, you can email email@example.com. If you would like to speak to Dr. Preece by phone, please send an email providing some times for her to call.
Please note that email is not a secure medium and therefore the confidentiality of communications by email cannot be guaranteed.
Sessions are 50-minutes in length, unless otherwise stated. If psychological testing is involved, a longer session may be needed. Once an appointment hour is scheduled, you will be expected to pay for it unless you provide 24 hours advance notice of cancellation or we both agree that you were unable to attend due to circumstances beyond your control.
We are not usually immediately available by phone. You can leave a voice message if you like. Email is useful for arranging a time to speak, but remember that confidentiality of email cannot be guaranteed. If you do not receive a reply within 24 hours, please resend. Note: We do not have a receptionist or full-time office person so please do not feel you are being too pushy if you resend your email if you do not get a quick reply. A reminder is always appreciated! Dr. Preece is the contact person for all other associates. She will arrange for you to be in contact with other providers as needed. Please note that as a small part-time private practice we are not able to offer crisis care. If you are feeling unsafe, please contact your family physician or go to the nearest emergency room.
A NOTE ABOUT TEXT MESSAGING
You are invited to text 604-831-4444 if you are running late for an appointment, or are having difficulty using the intercom. Please do not abuse that privilege by using text messaging for other types of communication. If you do not receive a reply to a text message when one is requested, please take that as an indication that your concern is something best addressed either by telephone or in face-to-face communication.
The hourly rate is $160.00. Sliding scale arrangements based on ability to pay are available for longer-term psychotherapy. A student rate is also available. Please be sure to discuss any requests for a reduced fee before booking your appointment. If you are requesting a diagnostic assessment, you will be quoted a flat fee in advance. In addition to sessions, other professional services you may require, including report-writing, telephone conversations longer than 5 minutes, attendance at meetings with other professionals at your request, preparation of letters, etc., will be charged at a pro-rated hourly rate of $30 for 10 minutes. Again, if you are requesting a reduced fee due to hardship, make sure this is discussed prior to the work being undertaken. If you become involved in a legal proceeding that requires our participation, you will be expected to pay for the time involved, even if the request is made by another party.
BILLING AND PAYMENTS
You will be expected to pay for each session at the time it is held, unless we agree otherwise. When an assessment is requested, the entire fee is due and payable before the report is prepared. Payment can be made by cash, cheque, debit, or credit. For virtual appointments, you can give me your credit card number, or you can send an online payment through your bank.
In order for us to set realistic treatment goals and priorities, it is important to evaluate what resources you have available to pay for your treatment. If you have a extended health insurance policy, it will usually provide some coverage for psychological services. It is your responsibility to find out what the requirements are for reimbursement. We will fill out forms and provide you with whatever assistance we can in helping you receive the benefits to which you are entitled. However, you (not your insurance company) are responsible for full payment of the fees.
